COVID Nurse Struggles with PTSD After Seeing Her Patients Die:

People reported it. A Seattle woman who had worked in the field for seven years quit because she “really felt that my job gave me purpose.” People who work in the healthcare field are likely to stay in the hospital for the rest of their lives, even if a pandemic didn’t happen. This would have kept me there for a long time.

In February 2020, COVID-19 will come to the United States. Devices that pump blood outside the body to give a heart and lung a break will be one of the only ways to treat it. Petersen spent most of her time in the basement, where the hospital’s tools and other things were kept a year later.

People can’t leave because the equipment is hard to work with, so they can’t go home. “This is where we spent 12 to 16 hours a day with our patients. Many of them were awake at the time. We had PPE on. It could take up to 60 days for you to get to know them.”

COVID was never completely healed:

“COVID was never cured. There was only the pain of seeing other people choke. I worked in the COVID ICU for more than 2,500 hours, but only one of my patients made it home to see their family. It’s a mistake.” Petersen says that the idea of heroes was fun to think about. They were not a substitute for getting real help, though, Petersen says.

In her words: “I don’t think anyone else knew what we were doing.” “However, no one heard us. Many of our hospitals didn’t work out for us, and I think we were hurt because of it.” It made her wonder why she was still alive after all of the people she cared about had passed away.

It was hard to understand why she was still alive, and other people were not. “Still, there are days when I don’t know if I’m alive. My life, of course, is important. However, I think I’m on stage all the time. So many people have lived in the dirt. So why are you still on the ground?”

True story she killed herself:

ER The family of a doctor say that before she killed herself, she was worried about not being able to help enough people.

When Petersen was feeling down, many things were going wrong with her mental health. She was having a hard time getting through the day. When she saw a therapist, she learned that she had PTSD or post-traumatic stress disorder and should stop nursing. In her mind, she didn’t deserve as much attention as someone who was still alive and moving.

“It was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do when I had to choose. Being there would have killed me.” But, when she talks about it, The thought that I would leave my friends and patients was too much for me to handle.

Since then, Petersen hasn’t been back to the hospital. He left in the spring of 2021. A nursing school at Johns Hopkins wanted to train her in anesthesiology, but it was already too late.

“When there was a pandemic, I heard people’s last words and tried to help them breathe as they tried to fight off the virus. They had faith in me, and I helped them. Then, I came to the conclusion that I could meet someone and make them vulnerable in the anesthetic field. I could watch them breathe again and know that they could go home.” She thinks that. If I could do that, I think it would be great. To be able to do that would be great.

In nurses’ words, they say that because the COVID pandemic has come back, they can’t work.

Petersen told me a few years ago that she didn’t know how she would get back to school. It was hard work, she said.

“How much I miss being able to help other people, though. In order to keep going, I have to help people and see them do well. But I don’t know how I’m going to do it.”

A: She’s spent all her money on treatment, and she doesn’t have enough money to pay for it. With her new job, Petersen wanted to fight for affordable mental health treatment for nurses and raise awareness about how many of them may have PTSD because so many have left the field of nurse anesthesia.

As a group, we need to start taking responsibility and help people get the care they need. There will be more staffing shortages if we don’t figure out how and why we got to this point.
